General Manager Todd Kelman was “very pleased” with the initial fixture dates confirmed with the Odyssey Arena late last week. Kelman had to submit his available dates to the Elite League on Monday to allow the Fixture List for the 2009/10 season to be put together.
“These are the best dates we have had at the Odyssey Arena in as long as I can remember. Right now we have confirmed 27 dates at the Odyssey Arena with the potential of adding additional games for Cup competitions. Last season we had seven weekends of back to back fixtures at home, which are tough to sell. This year we have a very consistent schedule, playing nearly every weekend once the season gets going at home.”
“The majority of home games are our ideal scenario, Saturday nights, with a handful of Fridays and a couple of Sundays at the Odyssey as well. So far, we have all weekend dates which is ideal for us and for the vast majority of our fans. Midweek games are always a tough sell, but so far we are set with 27 weekend dates which is simply fantastic.”
“With 27 dates booked, we are expecting to play a couple of games at the Dundonald Ice Bowl as well, but we will be able to confirm those dates along with the finalized fixture list over the next few weeks.”
The release date for the complete 2009/10 Elite League Schedule has not been confirmed as of yet, but the Giants would expect it to be out within the next two to three weeks.
Although the Elite League starts the weekend of September 5/6, the Odyssey is booked with the Wedding Extravaganza so the Giants will be starting on the road but their 2009/10 Elite League home campaign is set to kick off the next weekend on Saturday, September 12th, 2009.
