David Goodwin Returns to Belfast for 2026/27 Season
The Belfast Giants are proud to announce the re-signing of 34-year-old David Goodwin for the 2026/27 season.
The upcoming season will mark the St. Louis-born forward’s seventh with the Giants, having first arrived in Belfast during the 2019/20 campaign. Since becoming a Giant, Goodwin has been a talismanic presence and formidable leader on and off the ice, having served as captain for three seasons.
After four successful NCAA seasons with Penn State University between 2013 and 2017, Goodwin began his professional career with SaiPa in the Finnish Liiga, where he notched 61 total points in 130 appearances, before making the move to the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan with Mora IK for the 2019/20 season. It was midway through this campaign that Goodwin recorded his first stint with the Giants, scoring 29 total points in 34 outings.
Following a season away with Polish side Cracovia Krakow, Goodwin would make his return to Belfast ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, for which he would be appointed captain for the first time. Over the two seasons that followed, Goodwin would tally an astonishing 158 points in just 138 games in all competitions, guiding the Giants to five trophies, including the club’s first-ever domestic treble in 2022/23.
Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Goody [David Goodwin] epitomises what it means to be a Giant. He’s a winner through and through and truly understands what it means to be a leader. Throughout his time in Belfast, Goody has played a big part in building the culture and high expectations that flow from top to bottom in this organisation and having him back for another season gives us a real edge straight out the gate.”
After departing Belfast for Club Hielo Jaca of the Spanish Liga Nacional de Hockey Hielo at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, Goodwin found his way back to Belfast during the 2023/24 campaign, offering poise and stability during a period marred by injury.
Commenting on his return to the Belfast Giants, David Goodwin said: “I am delighted to be returning to Belfast for a seventh season. I’m very proud of the winning culture we’ve created here, and I am as eager as ever to bring more trophies to this great city.”
