Giants Confirm Return of J.J. Piccinich
The Belfast Giants are pleased to confirm the re-signing of 29-year-old forward J.J. Piccinich for the 2026/27 season.
From Paramus, New Jersey, the upcoming will mark Piccinich’s fourth in Belfast, having first joined ahead of the 2021/22 season. To date, Piccinich has made more than 215 appearances for the Giants, recording over 225 total points in all competitions. During the 2025/26 season, Piccinich was part of a formidable Giants’ top line alongside Scott Conway and the recently re-signed David Goodwin, who combined to play a key role in retaining the Elite League title.
Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Bringing J.J. back is a key part of the puzzle for us. Across his three seasons here, he’s been one of the most reliable and consistent performers and has come up with some big goals when it mattered the most. J.J.’s the sort of player you love to work with as a coach because he makes everyone else around him that bit better, so we’re really pleased that he’ll be a Giant again next season.”
Before arriving in Belfast, Piccinich played four seasons of AHL and ECHL hockey, icing for teams including the Orlando Solar Bears, Toronto Marlies, Newfoundland Growlers, San Antonio Rampage, and Tulsa Oilers, making more than 220 combined appearances. After his first stint with the Giants, during which he recorded an impressive 98 total points in just 68 games, Piccinich spent two seasons with Norwegian side Stjernen, adding a further 129 points to his resume. Piccinich made his much-anticipated return to Belfast ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and has since tallied 131 total points in 148 appearances in all competitions, earning him the 2025/26 Forward of the Year accolade at the club’s annual awards night.
Commenting on his return to Belfast, J.J. Piccinich said: “Coming back for another season was an easy decision to make. While we were pleased to retain our Elite League title last season, I know we all felt that there was unfinished business, so I’m looking forward to the opportunity to right some wrongs. The fans, the city, and the organisation’s incredible culture are second to none, and I can’t wait for another season of Giants’ hockey - one hopefully filled with more silverware and more unforgettable memories.”
