Statement from Todd Kelman, Belfast Giants General Manager: “I would like to thank all of the Nottingham Panthers supporters who made their way over to Belfast this past weekend for our double header against their team.
There were over 500 travelling fans and their attendance made for an amazing atmosphere for both games on the weekend. I know that the results did not go their way, but regardless of the scorelines, they were full of fun, good natured banter and seemed to really enjoy themselves at the games and throughout our great city. We are always pleased to have the Panthers fans here and the Giants / Panthers double header will hopefully become a tradition here in Belfast. It is often difficult to make the trip over for just one game, and this was somewhat of an experiment, but overall, I would say this was a great success. On behalf of our team, the Odyssey Arena and the Odyssey Pavilion where many of you ate and drank throughout the weekend, we all appreciate the support and hopefully we will see you back again soon.”
“To our own fans in Belfast, a GIANT thank you as well! I doubt we could have done the job we did without the 4,000+ of you getting behind our team all weekend long. We owed you that and we all appreciate your ongoing support. I know that alot of you were in attendance both games and I understand that in these times, finding the money to spring for tickets twice in one weekend is not always easy, but hopefully you were glad you did. Your support gave us the home ice advantage we needed to take on the Panthers. Thank you all…”
“Finally, I wanted to thank Gary Moran, the Panthers’ General Manager. It was Gary’s idea to give the double header a try this season. he knew the Nottingham fans would take part in a weekend in Belfast and I am grateful to him for his ideas and ongoing support. The Giants fans have enjoyed many great weekend’s over the years in Nottingham, particularly for the annual playoff finals, so I am glad that we could finally host the Nottingham fans for a weekend away.”
