Two For The First…

I am very excited to be back for a second season with the Giants. This is the first season of my professional hockey career where I have resigned to play for the same team as the previous year. Traveling from team to team and league to league has had its ups and downs but after last years success it was an easy decision to come back to Belfast.

This year is going to be a battle from start to finish for every trophy. The league has much more parity especially since Basingstoke and Manchester have dropped to the EPL. Throw in our drooling travel schedule and a few nagging injuries and things don’t get any easier. Having said that I feel we are up to the challenge and that all three trophies are within our reach. We have a well balanced team including two solid goalies, smart defensive d-man, along with toughness and scoring up front. I am looking forward to a repeat championship season at the Odd and the Ice Bowl.

So far the season has been a grind. I think playing in the Gardiner Cup with a short roster was a humbling experience suffering a loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs. However we did manage to pull up our socks and grab two points over the host Capitals the following afternoon. Furthermore I look at our recent game against Cardiff. Two hard fought games where we were able to scrape and claw ourselves to victory with a depleted lineup. I look back to last season and other season throughout my career, the old saying “slow and steady wins the race” comes to mind. All it takes is determination, focus and hard work. With that, we will be hoisting championship banners to the rafters at odd again this season.
