Giants Sign Peter Bates for 2026/27 Season
The Belfast Giants are pleased to confirm the signing of 29-year-old forward Peter Bates for the 2026/27 season.
From Evanston, Illinois, the 6’1” American becomes a Giant following four impressive seasons with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder, during which he posted 236 total points in 269 games between 2022 and 2026. Named one of the Thunder’s alternate captains for the 2024/25 season, Bates arrives in Europe for the second time in his career, having made five appearances with Slovakian side HK Poprad during the 2023/24 campaign.
Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Peter’s numbers speak for themselves. He’s a clinical finisher who consistently puts up big points, so he’ll be a big part of our offensive plans next season. Beyond his ability on the ice, Peter’s also a proven leader and someone who puts the team before himself, which is exactly the type of mentality you need to play for this club. I think Peter’s game will go from strength to strength here, so I look forward to bringing him into our group and seeing what he can do.”
A graduate of Wisconsin’s St. Norbert College, Bates played four seasons of NCAA hockey, recording an impressive 149 total points in just 123 appearances for the Green Knights. Having turned professional during the 2021/22 season, Bates had a short stint in the ECHL with the Atlanta Gladiators before going on to find subsequent success with the Wichita Thunder.
Commenting on joining the Belfast Giants, Peter Bates said: “I’m really looking forward to playing in Belfast next season. Hopefully, we can play some exciting hockey and continue the tradition of success that the Giants fans are used to. I can’t wait to meet the other guys and get the season started.”
