Days before our playoff final appearance and I just noticed that my last blog was in January. Of course blogs are so 2010. I should be tweeting or facebooking by now. Speaking of twitter, a couple of the guys have some interesting ideas about fan interaction next season with Twitter from the guys, so keep your eyes peeled or your tweets on tweet alert for Giant Player Tweets on a rotating basis next season.
But before all of that, what an incredible finish to our home games this season, with a sell-out requiring the extra seats in the East Tier. Was that a trip down memory lane for all of us that have been here long enough to remember when we didn’t know those seats could come out, let alone go back in. It was great to see it and hopefully something we can start to see more of next season.
Thanks to all of our fans that made us part of their weekend plans this year, your support has been immense all season long. We officially had our best supported season since the Elite League began, with spectator numbers going up an average of 300 paying customers per game. Not a bad improvement at all and with the best fans in the league behind us, we had a very successful season, albeit one that has not seen us celebrate a title, at least not yet.
The most points ever by a Giants team since the Elite League began and still we lose the league by a single point. But its playoff time and after a stressful quarter final against Brett Jaeger and the rest of the Coventry Blaze, we have reached the playoff final four in consecutive seasons. This is only the second time in Giants history that we have made the playoff final four in back to back seasons. That is a statistic I hope I never have to recall because from now on, we want Belfast to be a permanent fixture during Final Four weekend.
If you are heading over to Nottingham, I sincerely hope we have as much fun as we all did last season and as always, I know our fans will do Belfast proud. It’s always easier when your team is there to cheer on, and for those of you who can’t make it, you can follow the games via live updates from the elite league site, BBC Radio may very well be providing live commentary and who knows, I might even be tweeting updates of my own.
Talk to you all post-playoffs.
