Happy New Year everyone! Well it’s that time of the year when most of us sit down and think long and hard about our personal resolutions for the upcoming year. Everyone makes them. For some of us it’s going to the gym more often, for others it’s being smarter with his/her money, and for some it’s even as simple as getting more sleep. While those aren’t exactly my wishes for the year to come, I do in fact have some. Having been out in the stands for the better part of December injured and watching our games rather than playing them, it’s safe to say that I’m wishing for an injury free year. There really isn’t anything much worse than watching your team play without you. I felt completely helpless and frustrated. However, what can you do sometimes? “C’est la vie”! Injuries are an inevitable part of sport!
I must say that this season has flown by up to this point. I can’t believe it is January already. I guess with hockey and my school schedule things have been rather hectic. For those who don’t know, Andrew Martin, Shane Johnson and I are all studying business at the University of Ulster right now. Up until now it has proved to be both challenging and frustrating, but most of all rewarding. We are not quite at the halfway point of our program, though I feel like we’re going to make it. In addition to training/playing and studying, my wife and I enjoy trying to squeeze in a little time to really try and get to know Belfast. It’s been a lot of fun. The people have been really friendly, and we’ve found some really cool places to eat and have a drink.
With our second half of the season underway, I am absolutely convinced that the best is yet to come. While we’re not where we want to be (first place, that is), I am still confident nevertheless in our team. We are a great team and being in the position that we are in now will only motivate us more going forward. Things haven’t come that easy for us lately. With that, I’ll leave with a quote from an unidentified Roman philosopher ( I am a scholar after all, or at least I try my best to be); “Things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember”.
All the best,
Paul Deniset
