When the Coors Belfast Giants take to the ice at the Odyssey Arena on Friday night they’ll look a little bit different than usual; the whole team will be wearing specially created pink jerseys bearing the signature Breast Cancer Care pink ribbon.
The ice hockey stars will not be the only ones seeing pink however; all of the wives and girlfriends of the players will also be in pink jerseys as they attempt to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care. The lovely ladies will be walking around the arena throughout the evening with pink buckets collecting donations, and all monies collected will be forwarded to Breast Cancer Care.
Giants General Manager Todd Kelman is anticipating great results from the evening. “The ladies are aiming to raise some serious cash for Breast Cancer Care,” cited Kelman. “I’m counting on all Giants fans do their best to support the WAG’s in their attempt to raise money for such an important organization.”
The pink jerseys are available for order from the Giants office at a price of 60 pounds, with 10 pounds from every jersey sold being donated to Breast Cancer Care. To place your order please call the office at 028 90 591 111, or visit the merchandise booth at the game on Friday evening.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and accounts for almost one in three (30%) of all cancer cases in women, excluding non-melanoma skin cancer. Breast cancer causes more than 12,500 deaths each year in the UK. Women are not the only ones affected; men can also get breast cancer, however it is rare. Approximately 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. The doors to the Odyssey Arena open at 6:30pm on Friday, and the puck drops at 7:30pm. Tickets are available from the Odyssey Arena Box Office at 028 9073 9074. All fans are encouraged to bring a donation for the pink bucket collection.
