Giants Lose Out To Coventry In A Shootout

Another tremendous game at the Coventry Skydome resulted in a shootout loss on the road for the league leading Giants as they lost out to the Blaze with Shea Guthrie and Robert Farmer counting for the hosts with only Jeff Mason finding the target for Giants in the shootout.

An all-action start saw Blaze take the lead after only 2.28 thanks to a goal by Matic Kralj. The same player then made it 2-0 at 4.05 shortly before Adam Keefe of Giants and Bryan Jurynec of Blaze were binned on fighting calls.

The pace never slackened and at 7.49 Benoit Doucet pulled one back for Giants but Blaze were not finished and Farmer scored a 3rd for the home side at 13.24 to leave them in control after the opening period.

An even 2nd session with Blaze seeming to hold on well to their advantage but at 37.31 we had a momentum switch when Giants scored shorthanded through Darryl Lloyd to bring them to within a goal.

Even better fortune for Giants while they were two players down and seconds after Blaze had taken a time out. The time on the clock showed 40.27 when Mark Garside scored the Giants 2nd shorthander of the game to tie it all up at 3.

At 47.11 Giants missed a great chance to go ahead when Lloyd missed a penalty shot and neither team was able to find a regulation winner after that.

In overtime Blaze dominated while on the powerplay – outshooting Giants by 5 to 0 but the visitors survived until the shootout where Blaze finally grabbed the extra point.
