The impressive Belfast Giants 12 game winning streak came to an end tonight in a hard fought battle at the Odyssey Arena where the Coventry Blaze took the spoils with a 3-0 victory.
The first period saw both teams come out flying with neither prepared to give an inch and this was was reflected on the scoreboard after 20 minutes as it remained at 0-0.
Despite both teams trading scoring chances the deadlock remained until the midway point in the second when Shea Guthrie netted on the powerplay to put the Blaze in front.
Coventry’s lead was doubled less than 2 minutes later with Guthrie this time turning provider for David Phillips who blasted home a slapshot to make it 2-0 at 31:44 with another powerplay strike.
The final nail in the coffin came with just over 7 minutes left in the game when Luke Fulghum buried his breakaway opportunity to bring an end to the Giants streak.
The Giants now embark on yet another road weekend where we take on the Nottingham Panthers and the Hull Stingrays on the 29th and 30th of October.
