Playing in his first league game as a member of the Stena Line Belfast Giants, sniper Jon Pelle produced a man of the match performance against his former club in a game that saw the Giants defeat the Cardiff Devils by 6-2 score line.
In an end-to-end game at the Cardiff Bay Ice Rink, the Giants took an lead early lead in the first period as Pelle fired past Stevie Lyle to tally his first of the season on a feed from Nick Kuiper at 5:41. The Devils got back on level terms before the end of the period with Brad Voth slotting the puck past Murphy to make it 1-1 going into the first intermission.
Pelle then doubled his tally netting the Giants second goal propelling his team into the lead momentarily before Scott Dobben struck to make it 2-2. Darryl Lloyd was denied a goal scoring opportunity and awarded a penalty shot but a save from Lyle turned away the Giants forward and the scores remained tied.
Jeff Mason fired home on the powerplay to make it 3-2 before Pelle bagged his hat-trick to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes of play.
In the final 20 minutes the Giants struck twice more to cushion their advantage with Pelle turning provider for Derek LeBlanc at 41:53 who made it 5-2 and Adam Keefe rounded off the scoring at 47:53 to make it Belfast Giants 6, Cardiff Devils 2.
