Peacock Dishes Out Some Capital Punishment

Giants moved to the top of Challenge Cup Group A following this convincing win in Edinburgh with young GB star Craig Peacock leading the way with a treble. Injury hit Capitals, still missing starting goalie Nathan Craze, could not repeat their heroics of Saturday night’s win in Dundee but fought hard throughout before a late scoring burst took Giants clear.

Peacock it was who opened the scoring at 11.44 for Doug Christiansen’s charges and the same player added his second at 15.28 shorthanded to end the first period scoring.

Tom Dignard was next on the mark at 21.19 for 3-0 Giants before Sean Menton pulled one back for Capitals at 26.25. Peacock completed a fine treble at 27.17 but back came the home side and Marcis Zembergs at 28.30 for 2-4 before late on a powerplay goal by Benoit Doucet gave Giants a three goal advantage going  into the third session.

The scoreline remained unchanged until Giants power gave them three goals in the final nine minutes. Robert Dowd at 51.24, Mark Garside at 55.51 and finally Dowd again at 57.33 were the players on target to ensure both points went the way of the visitors.
