Stephen Murphy stopped all 21 shots he faced on Sunday Night to backstop the Giants to an easy 5-0 win over the struggling Edinburgh Capitals.
Defenceman Tom Dignard scored his first goal as a Giant at the 8 minute mark of the first period to open the scoring with George Awada and Derek Leblanc assisting on the goal. Four minutes later, Benoit Doucet doubled the lead with his 6th goal of the season with Leblanc and Ryan Crane picking up the assists.
The only goal of the second period came from Robert Dowd with his team leading 7th goal of the season with defenceman Jeff Mason getting the lone assist on the play.
The final period saw an onslaught of 23 shots from the Giants compared to just 7 from the Capitals. Two more goals for the Giants – first an unassisted goal from the league’s leading scorer Brock McBride with his 7th of the season; then in the final minute it was Crane with his 4th of the season with Adam Keefe and Gareth Roberts picking up the assists.
With Murphy standing tall in net for the Giants, at the other end of the ice was former Giant Nathan Craze who faced over 50 shots for the second time against his former club. The win keeps the Giants in first place in the Elite League standings, a single point ahead of the Sheffield Steelers, and 3 points ahead of the Coventry Blaze and the Nottingham Panthers.
Next up for the Giants is another 2 game road trip when they face the Hull Stingrays on Saturday and the Coventry Blaze on Sunday.
