Returning for his fourth season in Belfast for the 2013/14 Season, Jeff Mason is a rock-solid defenseman and a scoring threat whenever he crosses the blueline. Jeff hails from Easthampton, Massachusetts and started his professional career in 2005 when he signed with the Augusta Lynx of the East Coast Hockey League. Previous to this he spent a very successful 4 years playing NCAA Hockey at Providence College. Jeff continued in the ECHL for a further 4 seasons before joining the Heilbronn Falcons for 16 games in the German 2nd Division.
Jeff joined the Giants in 2010/11 and most notably Jeff scored the shootout-winning goal against the Coventry Blaze that sent the Giants to the playoff finals weekend at the end of last season. When Mason is on the ice opponents better beware – whilst Jeff is not the most physically imposing defenseman his skating ability and on-ice vision make him a constant offensive threat. Mason re-joined the Giants in October last season after starting the season in Norway.
In 38 games in 2012/13 he scored 6 goals and added 16 assists while logging some of the most minutes in the league on the blueline. The previous season, Mason was selected as the Elite League’s Best Defenceman after tallying 21 goals and 65 points on route to an Elite League Championship.
“Jeff is a tremendous skater and can be a contributing player at both ends of the ice. Jeff is a former ECHL and EIHL All-Star and lead in the Elite League in scoring as a defenceman in the 2011/12 season.”
