At just 25 years old, Right Winger JJ Piccinich has already amassed more Championships in his relatively short career than many pros could dream of. The New Jersey native makes his move to Belfast after four years spent between the AHL and ECHL; North America’s second and third tier of pro hockey.
Piccinich only needed a single season in the NCAA to raise his first banners, clinching the Hockey East regular season and playoff Championships on a Boston University Terriers’ roster, which included now-Buffalo Sabres Captain, Jack Eichel.
From there he made a move into the OHL to ply his trade with the London Knights in 2015-16 where, in his first season, he helped the team to an OHL Championship and the historic CHL Memorial Cup. After winning it all alongside future NHLers like Mitch Marner (now Sheldon Keefe’s Assistant Captain in Toronto), he went on to Captain the Knights before turning pro and signing with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears.
It seems that wherever Piccinich has gone, Championship success has followed. A 2018-19 season with the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers resulted in a Kelly Cup, where he posted 31 points (9 goals, 22 assists) in 62 games played.
Noted for his skating ability, Piccinich is relishing the opportunity to play on the larger Olympic sized ice sheet at The SSE Arena, Belfast with the hope that yet another Championship season isn’t too far away.
