Graeme Walton returns for his ninth year with the Giants and as a Belfast native he is the first and only Northern Irish player ever to be selected for the GB National team. In nine seasons with the Giants Walton has won four major championships – a league title in 2006, the British Knock Out Cup and the Challenge Cup in 2009 and the Playoff Championship in 2010. He currently sits third on the list for number of games played for the Giants franchise with over 397 games under his belt. In his nine seasons as a defenseman he has scored 7 goals and 52 assists for a total of 58 points.
GM Kelman has nothing but praise for his former teammate: “Wally is a great team guy who puts his heart and soul into every game. He plays such an important role in our defence, filling the spot of reliable defender that can play with the more offensive guys on the ice. He has improved so much over the years. He really is a player that the people of Belfast can be proud to call their own.”
“Walton is going to be a key player for us. His ability to play forward and defense allows us a lot of flexibility if we sustain injuries. He has played many years for the Giants and will be looked to for leadership and professionalism. I am hoping he has a great season!”
