While many pretenders look to steal his crown, the Taysider retains respect throughout the league as one of the top netminders in the EIHL. The 34 year old Dundee born shot stopper is now in his eighth consecutive season with the Giants.

Eight time winner of the Phil Drackett Memorial Award as best British netminder and multiple All-Star selection Murphy has also represented Great Britain, pulling on the Lion jersey over fifty times in a sixteen year career with the National side.

Signed by Steve Thornton in 2009, Murphy has also iced with great success under Doug Christiansen and Paul Adey and remains the only British netminder to backstop an EIHL championship side, which he has done on two separate occasions against the belief of some within the sport.

Murphy has proven more than capable of reaching his own high standards, and with the Belfast Giants running fewer defensive lines than they have in years gone by, the fans will hope he retains that high standard in the quest for silverware!
