Brought in by coach Ed Courtenay to do the enforcing for the 05/06 Giants, Skiehar goes about his work quietly and without a fuss, taking on anyone who steps over the line, and beating most. Now into his second season as a Giant, Skiehar is held in high esteem by team mates, fans and coach alike. Shawn has also been named as an Alternate Captain in both his seasons in Belfast. Although not afraid of anyone, or afraid of putting his body on the line for the team he has displayed a clever temperament, only fighting when needed to by the team. Shawn also displayed a knack for scoring important goals, especially in playoff hockey, along with some of the best defensive forward play seen in a Giants jersey. An integrual part of the Giants penalty killing team, no other player throws his body about quite like Ski blocking shot after shot.
Originally from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Skiehar stands at 6ft 1ins and weighs in at 205lbs. He joined the Belfast Giants from the East Coast Hockey League team, the Louisiana IceGators and is a formidable forward that added serious weight to the Giants offence. In his career so far, Skiehar has received over 1473 penalty minutes. On signing Ski last year, Courtenay said, 'I have played with and against Skiehar, and he's certainly a guy you want to have on your team!'
