Rob Sandrock, the only defenceman in team history to ever lead the Giants in league scoring will once again be patrolling the blueline for the Giants this season.

Sandrock became an instant fan favourite during the 2002/03 season when the young defender with the cannon of a shot helped lead the Giants to their first ever playoff championship in the final year of the now defunct Superleague.

After that season, he followed departing Giants coach Dave Whistle to Iserlohn in the top German league (DEL) for 1 season before moving to Hannover for the next 2 years where he led his team in scoring during his second season with 25 goals and 33 assists in 50 games. He spent the 2006/07 season in Munich before spending his final year in Germany in Wolfsburg once again in the DEL.

The next 3 seasons were spent in the top league in Austria, the majority in Zagreb, a Croatia based team playing in the Austrian League. Last season, he battled through an injury but is fully healed and ready to hit the ice in the city that launched his European career.

Coaches Comments

“Rob is exactly what I was looking for. He is right handed offensive defenceman and he is a veteran player who will be counted on in all situations. Having watching a lot of video on him, what struck me the most was his ability to shoot the puck from the point. I think he will have a lot of success on our power play.”
