Belfast Giants Sign Reid Irwin for 2025/26 Season

The Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of 26-year-old defenceman Reid Irwin for the 2025/26 season.
Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, Irwin joins the Giants following a standout collegiate career at Colgate University, where he served as team captain in his senior year. A steady two-way presence on the ice and a natural leader off it, Irwin adds size and skill to an already formidable Giants blue line.
Known for his calmness under pressure, positional awareness, and strong decision-making, Irwin was a cornerstone of Colgate’s defensive structure during his three years with the programme. As captain, he earned praise for his consistency, accountability, and work ethic – qualities that made him stand out on the ice and in the dressing room.
Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Reid is a smart, reliable two-way defenceman who leads by example. As captain at Colgate, he showed the character and attitude we value highly at this club. He's already played important minutes at a high level, and knows what it takes to compete night in, night out. We're excited to add him to our group."
After graduating from Colgate University, Irwin began his professional career with the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL. During the 2024/25 season, he established himself as a reliable presence on the blue line, contributing through composed puck movement, solid positioning, and a steady defensive game.
Commenting on joining the Belfast Giants, Reid Irwin said: “It’s a real honour to sign with the Belfast Giants. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the city, the fans, and the organisation’s culture. The chance to play meaningful hockey in a world-class arena, for a club with such a winning tradition, is incredibly exciting. I’m ready to give everything and can’t wait to get started.”
