Meet the Teams: Friendship Four 2025
Four teams. One trophy. One unforgettable weekend of college hockey.
This month, the Friendship Four returns to The SSE Arena, Belfast, bringing the speed and skill of NCAA Division One hockey back across the Atlantic. On Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November, four of North America’s top men’s college programmes – the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers, Sacred Heart University Pioneers, Miami University RedHawks, and Union College Garnet Chargers – will battle for the prestigious Belpot Trophy in front of a passionate Belfast crowd.
Whether you’re a die-hard hockey fan or just love a fun and unique night out, the Friendship Four is one of the highlights of Belfast’s sporting calendar, and this year’s lineup promises fast, physical, and fiercely competitive hockey from the opening face-off. Here’s your guide to the teams making the trip across the pond.
Rochester Institute of Technology – The Relentless Tigers
The RIT Tigers arrive in Belfast as one of the most consistent programmes in Atlantic Hockey. Fresh off another strong season and known for their all-action style, the Tigers combine discipline and a never-quit mentality that makes them a formidable opponent. With several conference titles in recent years and a reputation for developing NHL-ready talent, RIT know what it takes to win big games. Expect energy, physicality, and a team that plays with purpose from the first puck drop.
Sacred Heart University – Hungry and Fearless
The Sacred Heart Pioneers are a programme on the rise. Under head coach C.J. Marottolo, they’ve become one of the most exciting teams in Atlantic Hockey – known for being fearless and relentless on the forecheck. Sacred Heart has produced a growing list of professional players, including Justin Danforth of the Buffalo Sabres, and they’ll arrive in Belfast determined to make their mark.
Miami University – Speed and Skill from the NCHC
The Miami RedHawks bring top-tier pedigree to this year’s tournament. Competing in the powerhouse National Collegiate Hockey Conference, Miami face some of the best teams in North America week in and week out, and that experience showcases their speed and skill. The programme has a proud history of producing NHL talent, from Dan Boyle to Alec Martinez, and their current roster continues a proud tradition of flair and competitiveness.
Union College – Calm. Composed. Competitive.
Winners of the 2014 NCAA National Championship, the Union College Garnet Chargers know how to perform on the biggest stage. Competing in the always-tough ECAC Hockey, Union teams are built on structure and discipline, however, they’re far from predictable. With an exciting roster that combines proven veterans and dynamic fresh faces, Union brings a smart technical game that rewards patience and precision.
