Join The Belfast Giants Game Night Commentary Team
The Belfast Giants are on the lookout for volunteers to join our game night team and play a part in making ice hockey even more accessible for visually impaired fans at The O2 Belfast.
This season, we’re working with Field of Vision to introduce innovative technology that brings visually impaired fans closer to the action by allowing them to experience the movement of the game through touch.
Field of Vision’s technology has already been used at some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including UEFA tournaments, the Paralympics, and World Cups, helping to create a more immersive live sporting experience for visually impaired spectators.
Now, we’re bringing that technology to Giants game nights at The O2 Belfast.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The system works by tracking the action and translating what is happening on the ice into real-time tactile sensations. Used alongside the audio description service already available at Giants games, it will give visually impaired fans another way to follow the speed, movement, and excitement as the action unfolds in front of them.
To help us deliver the service throughout the season, we’re looking to build a dedicated team of volunteers who can learn how to use Field of Vision’s tracking technology and provide the real-time input that helps bring the action to life.
Volunteers will follow the game using the technology and help translate the movement of play into the tactile experience felt by the user. As the puck is moving from one end of the ice to the other, the volunteers operating the system will be an important part of making sure fans can follow the action as it happens.
You don’t need previous experience with Field of Vision or similar technology to get involved. Training and support will be provided, but we are looking for people who are comfortable using computers, can follow fast-moving action, and are keen to learn something new.
It’s also a chance to become part of the team behind Giants game nights. You’ll experience games from a different perspective, work alongside others involved in delivering the game-night experience and, most importantly, help us make live Giants hockey more accessible to the fans who come through our doors.
COULD THIS BE FOR YOU?
We’re looking for volunteers who:
- Can commit to attending approximately 75–85% of Belfast Giants home games, including Challenge Cup and Continental Cup fixtures.
- Can arrive at The O2 Belfast around 30-minutes before the main doors open on game nights.
- Are able to occasionally carry a small amount of equipment weighing less than 10kg.
- Are reliable, enthusiastic, and keen to help us provide the best possible experience for visually impaired Giants fans.
By joining the team, you’ll be helping us take another step towards making sure as many people as possible can experience the atmosphere and action of a Belfast Giants game night.
