Bast Back in Belfast for 2025/26 Season

The Belfast Giants are pleased to confirm the return of 28-year-old defenceman Gabe Bast for the 2025/26 season.
A composed and intelligent presence on the blue line, Bast has firmly established himself as one of the top defencemen in the Elite League. Known for his poise under pressure and sharp decision-making, Bast brings a high-level of consistency and professionalism to the Giants’ defensive unit.
Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Basty (Gabe Bast) is a fierce competitor and plays on both sides of the puck. Defensively, he is hard to play against and isn't afraid to block a shot or make an opponent pay the price. Offensively, he's one of the most dangerous in the Elite League on the back end. He is a proven winner here in Belfast, and we are happy to have him back for a third season."
Over the course of the season, Bast’s contributions often extend beyond the stats sheet. Whether it’s closing down space in the defensive zone, making smart outlet passes under pressure, or managing the tempo from the back, his impact is felt in every game. Bast’s work ethic and competitive edge continue to set the tone in key moments.
Commenting on returning to the Belfast Giants, Gabe Bast said: “I’m really happy to be back in Belfast for my third season. This is a first-class organisation with a winning mindset, and I feel lucky to be a part of it. The standard here is something I really value. I’m focused on continuing to grow my game and doing whatever I can to help this team achieve its goals this season.”
