Throughout November 2022, W5’s interactive daily science shows brought learning to life with fun and interactive demonstrations that excited and inspired audiences of all ages, with a range of shows exploring STEM and sport-themed subjects.
STEM Pathways: Building the Future

W5 welcomed Year 10 students to a live interactive event to promote careers in construction. Students heard about the latest information on the Northern Ireland construction industry, found out more about careers within the sector, as well as heard about the various routes into relevant courses and training to gain full-time employment. They had the opportunity to attend hands-on workshops, hosted by Belfast Met, as well as hear from guest speakers from the construction education sector.
A Bridge to France – Programme Launch

Primary school children joined W5 and The British Council for the launch of 'A Bridge to France' - an innovative primary schools' programme that aims to inspire engagement with languages and STEM.
The programme brings together French celebrations, customs, culture, and language, with the discovery of the amazing engineering involved in designing some of the famous structures throughout France, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Millau Viaduct – the tallest bridge in the world!
Running over four months, the programme will culminate with a celebration event in W5 where schools will use their skills and knowledge gained over the course of the programme to compete to build the most outstanding 'Bridge to France'.

STEM Pathways: Creating a Sustainable Future

Year 11-14 students discovered the latest practices and principles being used in Northern Ireland to enable us to meet the environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies. Over 14 proactive companies shared their passion and dedication to achieve a cleaner environment and workplace; presenting valuable practical solutions and debating some of the most pressing aspects of sustainability in our nation.
Pupils had the opportunity to network with inspiring leaders, movers, and shakers from across the entire sustainability ecosystem. In addition, pupils heard from a range of guest speakers, took part in Q&A sessions, and attended a jobs fair - providing an chance to chat informally to companies exhibiting.
Public event in partnership with the Centre for Community Archaeology at Queen’s University Belfast
Saturday 26 November 2022, 11am-4pm, W5
W5, in partnership with Queen's University Belfast's Centre for Community Archaeology (CCA), provided children and young people of all ages with a chance to directly interact with the skills that were used by our ancestors in the past.
Replicating ancient technologies and techniques showcased the fun and informative aspect of archaeology, while also adding a whole new dimension to attendee's understanding of how people produced their tools and commodities.
Led by the CCA's Brian Sloan, members of the public had the opportunity to learn and carry out traditional skills, such as pottery making, willow weaving and flint knapping.
