The Steelers are top of the standings with 24 points from 20 games and the Giants are two places back with 22 points from 17 games.
Following four straight defeats – the Giants got back to winning ways last weekend, defeating the Cardiff Devils twice on the road.
“Last weekend was huge for us,” said Lewis Hook. “It put us straight back to where we want to be in the league with games in-hand. We want to keep on this roll now.”
Hook is now in his second season with the Giants and, following last season’s league success, knows what it is going to take for his side to compete for a second straight title.
“We have not played Sheffield yet, though we know they are an offensive hockey team. It will be tough going into their building on Wednesday night. We just need to keep going and there is no better time to play more games right now.”
In the 2019/20 season to date – Hook has already posted over half of his 2018/19 points total with nine points, one goal and eight assists, in league and cup play.
The English forward was back on the ice Tuesday with his teammates as the Giants took advantage of their only practice before taking on the league’s top side on Wednesday in Sheffield.
“When you are winning – you don’t want to be training..you want to just keep playing games. Today we got our legs going again, got prepared..did some special teams ready for tomorrow.”
There have been some historic battles over the years with the Giants winning four from last season’s six games on their way to the Elite League title.
Wednesday’s clash is the first meeting between these two rivals in 2019/20 though there are familiar faces on the Steelers with former Giants Brendan Connolly, David Phillips and Rob Dowd.
“They are a very offensive hockey team – their d-men like to jump in and it is really like a 5-man offensive unit when they are out there.”
“We just need to stick our game plan. We’ve been playing very well last weekend so we just need to keep going..do our thing and I’m sure we’ll get the win.”
Wednesday’s game will be broadcast live on FreeSports from 7pm, face-off 7:30pm. This weekend sees the Giants end their six game road swing with games in Fife and Dundee on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Giants then return home for three games – the ‘Retro Games’ on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December against the Sheffield Steelers, when the organisation will be celebrating the 20th anniversary season, followed by the Challenge Cup Quarter Final 1st Leg against the Cardiff Devils on Wednesday 11th December.
