Dundee Star At Home To Stun Giants

The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell to the Dundee Stars in Scotland on Saturday. A game winning goal from Colton Kroeker at 58:02 gave the hosts the win in Challenge Cup Group A.

Shane Owen started in the Belfast net with the Giants missing Jesse Forsberg. Goals from Jean Dupuy, Ben Lake and Curtis Hamilton were not enough as Dundee made it two wins out of two over the Giants in the cup.

Stars Fight Back After Dupuy Opener

The Giants took the lead midway through the opening period thanks to Jean Dupuy’s composed finish at 8:34 after some nice work behind the goal from Bobby Farnham.

The hosts equalised at 17:08 when Kevin Dufour found a way past Shane Owen in the Giants net, assisted by Kris Inglis and Shawn Boutin.

Even Middle Period In Dundee

Belfast snatched their second go-ahead goal of the night at 22:45 when Ben Lake was unhand to hammer home after Patryk Wronka worked his way out from behind the Dundee net.

However, just as in the first period, the Stars fought back. This time it was Duncan Speirs who would score the equaliers, assisted by Matt Marquardt and Anthony Beauregard.

Dundee Edge Out Giants

The final period began at a frantic pace and it was the Giants who would strike first. With Brian Ward winning the face-off in the Belfast offensive zone, Curtis Hamilton picked up the puck and fired it low past Leclerc in the Stars goal to edge the Giants infront at 45:55.

Shawn Boutin brought the Stars level yet again with 4:47 remaining, assisted by Craig Gans, before Colton Kroeker redirected a shot on goal at 58:02 to take the win for the home side.
