Off Ice: An interview with Barbara Reynolds

Introducing the talented Barbara Reynolds! One of the Giants sports therapists who is dedicated to the safety and recovery of our players. An integral part of the off-ice team!

What did you do before you worked here and how did you end up in your role?

I trained as a sports massage therapist and was lucky enough to get my clinical hours working with the team. It has just boomed from there, going on with my study (heading back to university for my Physio Degree) and now having a full running clinic with the legend that is Colin Shields in TPF.

Explain your role in three words

What is a typical game day for you?

If I told you I’d have to kill you! Only joking, basically keep it all good! Good vibes, good players, good preparation.

What has been the Belfast Giant’s biggest achievement?

They have done so much but I personally loved the city hall being lit up in teal! It was so special I think for everyone in Belfast.

What’s the favorite part of your job?

Everything. I can honestly say there is not a bad part (apart from the off season) I love being able to help these athletes be the best they can.

Who is your sports hero?

Kyle Maynard, he has done it all!! He is a congenital amputee. Maynard was born without any arms or legs, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming an MMA fighter, competing against able-bodied athletes. He is my inspiration for my quote to live by.

Who is your favourite past player, why?

It would have to be between Adam Keefe or Darryl Lloyd. When I first started, they were both playing, their passion and heart for the game was contagious. A team isn’t a team without passion and heart.

What makes you proud to be a part of the Belfast Giants?

The Giants do so much for the community. From the Ice Academy to all their charity work just makes me so proud to be part of an organisation that puts so much back locally.  How the people get so involved, for example, when Laura Small shaved her hair, Martinelli and Boxill both gave up their beards for charity, it is so inspiring. Honestly the people in this organisation are unbelievable and it makes me want to do better.

Quote to live by

Work hard for what you want, find a way to reach your goals and dreams, nothing is impossible
