Stena Line Belfast Giants Head Coach Adam Keefe is preparing for his first games behind the bench this weekend. The Giants take on the Manitoba Bisons this Saturday, 7pm, and Sunday, 4pm, at The SSE Arena.
Training Camp is now over one week old and, in the days leading up to this weekends’ exhibition games, practice has taken a step up according to the Head Coach,
“We are working on our systems this week and continuing to build on our fitness levels. We are also getting the players used to playing with each other – we have a lot of new faces who need to gel together.”
Cole Jarrett, Kevin Raine, Spiro Goulakos, Sebastien Sylvestre, Darcy Murphy, Jonathan Ferland, Brendan Connolly and Dustin Johner are the new faces who will pull on the team jersey for this first time this weekend. Though what about the final addition to the 2017/18 roster?
“We are still looking but we are still in talks with a guy and hopefully that can get wrapped up in a day or two. We will continue to look in case things do not go our way. Though hopefully that process wraps up soon.”
Coach Keefe extended a training camp invite to a chosen group of local players and they will be dressing in their home team’s colours at The SSE Arena this weekend,
“We will have some local guys who will earn ice time this weekend. It’ll be interesting to see how they do in competitive games.”
Although the two home games vs Manitoba are exhibition, the message from the Coach is simple – work hard and win,
“We are certainly not going into the weekend to lose, thats for sure. We want to win and I want our compete level to shine through this weekend.”
