The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce that Jeff Mason and Andrew Dickson will return for the 2016/17 Elite League season. The announcement of another two additions to the roster comes with the new season nearing it’s beginning with the Giants facing the Fischtown Pinguins of Germany’s DEL in back-to-back games on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August in Belfast.
The 2016/17 season will be Mason’s seventh with the Giants organisation and the defenceman has now played over 300 games for the Giants, posting 200 points along the way. The 35 year old was named as the Giants Defenceman of the Year in 2015 and helped the organisation to the Elite League titles in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons.
Mason’s appointment will allow the Giants cover in case of injuries to the 2016/17 roster and he will also take on a leadership role for the 2017 IIHF World Championship tournament to be hosted at The SSE Arena, Belfast.
Netminder Andrew Dickson, from Ballymoney, adored by many of the Giants fanbase as well as by teammates in the locker room, will make the 2016/17 season his sixth season in-a-row with his local team.
Dickson helped the organisation to Elite League titles in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons, when he had a stand out year, claiming his first professional win in Belfast on 16th March against the Braehead Clan and followed up with an impressive second only days later against the Nottingham Panthers. Dickson, 28, will return as a backup to Stephen Murphy and Jackson Whistle.
