The longest serving Captain in Giants history, the legendary George Awada will be back in the lineup this weekend against the Fife Flyers and Nottingham Panthers.
Awada who is back living in Northern Ireland was contacted last week by Coach Doug Christiansen to see if he was willing to get back on the ice with his old team.
The former Giants captain has been training with the Giants all this week and will be in the lineup Friday Night against Fife, his first game as a Giant since winning the Playoff Championship in 2010.
Early season injuries to current Giants captain Jeremy Rebek and forward Jon Pelle left the Giants with an open spot for an import player and Awada was asked to fill the spot on a temporary basis. Giants Coach Doug Christiansen spoke about Awada’s return.
“George has been one of the most influential players in Giants history. He adds size to our lineup but more important, he adds experience. He has a different role now than he did in previous years but he has accepted it as a true professional and he will help us win games. I hope the Giants fans welcome him back with a thunderous ovation.”
Awada will be back in the lineup for both games this weekend, Friday Night against the Fife Flyers (face off 730pm) and Saturday Night against the Nottingham Panthers (face off 7pm). Tickets for both games are available from the Odyssey Box Office on (028) – no longer available – or at www.ticketmaster.ie
