The Belfast Giants organisation does not normally make comment on players who are out of contract. However, as there has been considerable interest on fan forums and social networking sites regarding Sean McMorrow, we feel obliged to bring our fans up to date.
During the 2009/10 season, Sean made an invaluable contribution to the Giants, both on and off the ice. He was undoubtedly a fan favourite and he represented the Giants at many community events over the course of the season. On the ice, he added not only to the physical presence of our team, but also to the entertainment of the fans.
Sean was released from his playing duties at his request in March 2010, to return home to deal with some personal issues arising from court proceedings against him in the USA. We have remained in contact with Sean since then and have waited as long as we possibly can before reaching a decision for next season.
As much as it saddens me, I cannot offer Sean a contract to play in Belfast next season. I would like to thank Sean for his contribution to the success of the Belfast Giants last season and everyone in the Giants organisation wishes him well in the future.
