Devils coach Gerard Adams must be wondering what more can he do to stop Coors Giants marksman Andrew Martin. Having tallied three goals in the season opener against the Devils and scoring the only goal in Thursdays night’s victory at the Odyssey, Martin then made it a hat trick of victories over the Devils as his shootout goal gave the Giants the win in Cardiff on Sunday night.

The opening period saw the teams share a goal apiece and basically set the tone for the remainder of the game. The hosts opened the scoring with a goal from Jay Latulippe (5th). The visitors replied with a strike from Graeme Walton (2nd) at 5.04.

Still nothing between the teams after 40 minutes as the game went one way then the other. The Giants edged in front at 26.11 as Paul Deniset (14th) scored. But this lead lasted less than a minute as Mike Prpich (11th) at 27.22 tied the game up once again. However 24 seconds later Belfast took the lead again as Evan Cheverie (6th) found the net at 27.46. Cardiff came back once again as Phil Hill (3rd) ended the second period scoring with a goal at 30.37 to tie the game at three apiece.

With the third period ending goalless the game went into overtime and still the teams could not be separated and it was onto a penalty shootout. After eight misses Andrew Martin netted with the sudden death game winner.
