The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian defender Jeremy Rebek and Canadian center Darryl Lloyd for the upcoming season.
Rebek joins the Giants following a highly successful career in the Austrian League playing for Klagenfurt AC, Salzburg EC and Vienna. In 2005/2006 and 2007/2008 he led the Austrian National Team to victory as an Assistant Captain and was also selected as the Best Defenseman at both World Championships. In 2007/2008 in the Austrian League he earned the award for Most Points by Defenseman with a total of 49 points. In 2009/2010 Rebek was an Austrian Champion and last season, he racked up a total of 34 points with 10 goals and 24 assists playing for Vienna.
Giants Coach Doug Christiansen is looking forward to the wealth of experience that Rebek will bring to the team.
“I have extremely high expectations for Jeremy. He has been a captain of multiple teams and he is a veteran player who knows what it takes to win. He has proven to be one of the best offensive defenceman in the Austrian League over the last few years and I am sure he will bring that element to the Giants this season.”
Darryl Lloyd is coming to Belfast after playing four seasons in the East Coast Hockey League in North America, two with the Victoria Salmon Kings and two with the Kalamazoo Wings. Playing for the Wings over the last 2 seasons the 195lbs 5’10 forward scored 32 goals and 62 assists including 51 points and 130 penalty minutes in 72 games last season. He also played with former Giant star Kory Karlander in Kalamazoo a year ago.
“Darryl’s a player with tremendous speed and loves to play the game on the edge,” said Christiansen. “He plays a hard-hitting game with offensive skill. Everywhere he’s been he’s been a fan favourite. I believe he is the kind of player we missed last season. We need players who pay the price to win and Lloyd will do that himself and inspire his teammates to do the same.”
Both Rebek and Lloyd will play their first game as a Giant on August Bank Holiday Weekend when the Giants take on the Nottingham Panthers in back to back nights at the Odyssey Arena. Book tickets through the Odyssey Box Office on (028) 9073 9074.
