Canadian centreman Slater Doggett carried the rich vein of form and points production he found at college into Europe after turning pro, and joins the Belfast Giants after a 2020-21 season spent in Slovakia with HC Nove Zamky.

Prior to that, Doggett found himself in Italy playing for a man who needs no introduction to the Teal Army. Under head coach Dustin Whitecotton, Doggett rocketed to the top of the Italian scoring charts and finished the season with a record 86 points (42 goals, 44 assists) in just 44 games played.

Anyone who had watched Doggett in college would not have been surprised. The Oakville, Ontario native was highly decorated during his time at USports’ Queens University (no, not that one). In 103 games played, Doggett notched 59 goals and 65 assists, good for 124 total points.

He graduated from Queens as a two-year Assistant Captain, having been named for a staggering list of awards, including nods for two OUA East First All-Star teams (2017-18, 2018-19); an OUA East Second All-Star team (2016-17); OUA East’s Most Valuable Player (2018-19); USports All-Canadian Second Team (2018-19); USports Top 8 Academic All-Canadians (2018-19); and a nomination for the Randy Gregg award for Outstanding Student Athlete.

A rare combination of youth, energy, maturity and experience, Doggett comes to Belfast in the hunt for his first full team Championship, and despite ambitions of continuing to test himself among Europe’s elite, he has not counted out the possibility of a long term stay in Belfast.
