27-year-old Defenceman Griffin Reinhart’s name sent waves around the EIHL this past summer, when the 2012 NHL 4th overall draft pick for the New York Islanders decided that Belfast is where he wants to play hockey.
Reinhart arrives on these shores with an impressive CV. The Vancouver, BC native has 37 games in the NHL under his belt, split between the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers.
He also boasts a staggering 302 games in the AHL, where he added some offense to his skills as a shut-down D-man, amassing 81 points (22 goals, 59 assists) in five seasons, split between the Bakersfield Condors, Chicago Wolves and Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The son of former Vancouver Canuck and Calgary Flame Paul Reinhart, Griffin and his two brothers Max and Sam remarkably all have NHL experience.
It’s fair to say that Griffin had Championship pedigree from an early age. He was part of the Edmonton Oil Kings team that clinched the WHL’s Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2011-12, before going on to captain the side in their CHL Memorial Cup winning campaign in 2013-14.
He arrives in Belfast after two years spent at the pinnacle of European hockey, icing in Russia’s KHL for Kunlun Red Star and in Germany for the Iserlohn Roosters.
