Giants Down Dundee And Return To Winning Ways

The Stena Line Belfast Giants returned to winning ways on Sunday – defeating the Dundee Stars 4-1 on the road. The Giants responded well following Saturday’s defeat in Fife and end their six game road swing with three wins and three defeats.

Goals from Hamilton, Hook, Morgan and Ward gave the Giants an important away win and they now sit in third place with 24 points from 20 games, four points behind the Sheffield Steelers in first place with 28 points from 23 games.

Shane Owen started in the Belfast net, posting 27 saves, with the Giants missing Captain Matt Pelech.

Giants Start Well

The Giants dominated the opening period and deservedly took the lead at 7:20. Ryan Lowney carried the puck into the Stars zone and the defenceman slid the puck to Curtis Hamilton who slammed high into the Flyers net.

The Stars equalised in bizarre circumstances at 11:16 when Drydn Dow’s slapshot went wide of the net, cannoned off the back board and hit the back of Shane Owen to trickle into the Giants net.

However the visitors restored their lead at 14:51 when Liam Morgan picked out Lewis Hook at the back post and the forward finished well past Alex LeClerc.

Morgan Extends Advantage

Liam Morgan, after assisting on the Belfast second goal, posted one of his own at 32:29. David Goodwin fed the puck to Morgan who skated into the Dundee zone and fired the puck straight into the Stars goal from a tight angle.

Ward Completes Scoring

The Giants got their final period off to the best possible start when Brian Ward pounced on the loose puck following the rebound from Kevin Raine’s shot – to give the visitors a three goal lead at 40:21.
