The Aer Lingus Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the return of defenceman Michael Jacobsen for the remainder of the 2010/11 Elite League season. Jacobsen was among the league’s best defenders in the 2009/10 season leading all Giants defencemen in scoring with 17 goals and 37 assists for 54 points in 68 games. He was an integral part of the Giants powerplay a year ago scoring 12 times, second highest on the team, with the man advantage.

The loss of defenceman Rich Seeley, left the Giants short staffed on the blueline. Coach Doug Christiansen looked at a number of players but at the top of his list was Jacobsen. “Mike was a star for the Giants last season and probably one of the top three defencemen in the Elite League,” said Christiansen.

“Jacobsen can play in every situation and adds another offensive weapon to our line up, particularly on the powerplay. We are looking forward to getting Mike into a Giants jersey and in the lineup.”
