The Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian forward Benoit Doucet for the 2011-12 season. Doucet is a left shot forward who can play center and wing. He is an explosive offensive player who has produced everywhere he has played.
In 2010-11, Doucet played in Holland for the Tilburg Trappers and won the Beker Cup given to the League Champions. Benoit also won the Colonial Cup in 2006-2007 in the United Hockey League in North America. Doucet’s best professional season was 2007-08 when he finished 4th in the scoring race in the East Coast Hockey League. In 150 ECHL games, Doucet scored 136 points.
Although Doucet stands just 5′9″, his former coach in Elmira Steve Martinson stated, “Where Deuce is really good is he will hold the puck to make plays. He’s tough as nails. He’ll take a hit to make a play. He’s not afraid to bring it to the net in traffic and hold it to make something happen. A lot of guys that are 5-foot-9, 180 pounds don’t like to carry the puck into traffic the way he will.”
“There is no question Doucet has the ability to be a very good player for us. He is going to be given an opportunity to be a top player for us and I expect him to be an impact player in our league this season.”
