Hello Giants Fans!
Posted: Tuesday 24th July 2007
Scott Cameron writing here from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. I will be one of the few new faces to appear this year in the Giants line-up and I am looking forward to it. This summer has been a long and hot one over here, so I am looking forward to the chance to step on the ice again with a team like the Giants that has a chance at winning it all.
I know fans always want to know why a player chooses a certain city to play in. There were many factors in my decision to head to Belfast. First of all, I enjoyed my experience in Germany last year, however the language barrier wasn't as simple as I had expected. So, my first intention was to find a place where there would be an easier transition. Secondly, Ed had pretty much convinced me early on that the team would be successful with the guys he had named who would be coming back, and the new guys that he was bringing in. Some familiar faces too I might add, which is even better.
Thirdly, talking my options over with my parents and relatives led me to this decision. This seemed to be the place they wanted to visit the most and that I'd be most comfortable adapting to. Finally, one of the main factors that influenced me in my decision involves my biggest hobby, guitar.
In the summers a lot of my time is spent playing various gigs with my father around here in Sudbury, Ontario. I have a strong Celtic background from both my father and mother's side, and the Celtic music is a big part of our heritage. For me to be able to visit and live in the country with such a great influence, or for that matter, the home to that style of music intrigued me. For me to be able to witness first hand real Irish music in a real Irish pub is something I've looked forward to for years. My father too I'm sure.
Anyways, besides the hockey and the music, I've heard only great things about the cit of Belfast, the community that the team has been embraced by and the strong support coming from the Giants fans to their team. Many players I've talked to throughout the league wished they had the opportunity to play there. So, I look forward to an enjoyable and successful season and I will give everything I have to help this team succeed.
See you all soon.
