Local business starts a winning season with Belfast Giants. A Belfast based direct marketing company LBM has been unveiled as the new title sponsor for the Giants for the 2009-2010 ice hockey season which also marks the teams tenth anniversary since being founded, it was announced today.

Despite recent economic woes placing pressure on corporate sponsorship budgets LBM has secured the title sponsorship for the Giants saying that it represents a significant investment in the future of Belfast where progressive business sits side by side with a vibrant sporting and cultural sector.

By all accounts LBM have backed a winner with the Giants storming to victory against the Sheffield Steelers during their home opening season game and are hotly contested to repeat last year’s winning form in the UK Elite League when they finished a double Cup winning season.

Announcing the new title sponsors General Manager Todd Kelman said that LBM have demonstrated leadership by backing an important community sport in an uncertain economic environment.

“Like any pro sports team, we rely on corporate sponsorship to survive and with LBM on board as title sponsors we have a local company committed to growing their business in the local community, much like the Giants. In tough financial times, there are not many companies continuing to recruit and offer more jobs, but LBM are doing well and continuing to offer jobs in the local market. We see this as the beginning of a long partnership with LBM and the Belfast Giants.”

LBM recently created 120 new jobs at its Springvale based facility having won a series of new contracts including Vodafone and O2 Ireland.

Patrick Forrester, General Manager of LBM in Belfast believes that supporting local sporting team and investing in community initiatives will reinforce its reputation as an employer of choice.

He said:
“We are extremely proud to be investing in a team which has such strong commitment to the local community and provides great family entertainment for people from across all the communities in Northern Ireland. We see our partnership with the Giants as a good match for LBM with our own company mantra ‘join the winning team’ reflecting our belief in the Giants’ success this season. We are looking forward to an action packed and exhilarating season following the fortunes of the team.”

This season marks the tenth anniversary of the Giants. In nine seasons, the Giants have won five championships including two last season.
