Belfast suffered their first shut out on the road since Coventry blanked them 8-0 in February 07 and at the same time allowed the Steelers to move six points clear of them at the top of the table. The game was there to be won even when the Giants were 2-0 down, but three goals in as many minutes from the Steelers sealed the win.
Only a late goal in the opening period separated the teams as Jonathan Phillips (9th) found the net at 19.53 to give the home support something to cheer them up during the break.
There was only one goal in the second period and that also came the way of the home side at 30.48 with a shorthanded goal from Rod Sarich (9th) to give them a 2-0 lead.
The roof fell in on the Giants as first Joey Talbot (18th) at 43.15 netted, followed by a strike from Doug Sheppard (10th) at 45.51 and finally at 46.40 as Jeff Legue (10th) saw the home team go nap. Jody Lehman secured his 4th shut of the season his second in succession.
