A group of young people involved in a cross-community programme running between Rosario Youth Club and Ledley Hall Youth Club were recently visited by Sean ‘The Sheriff’ McMorrow of the LBM Belfast Giants and Michael McGrath, Irish Sea Area Director of leading ferry company Stena Line, as part of the Giants’ Companies That Care Initiative.
The ice hockey star met with young people from the Ormeau & East Belfast areas and was inspired by the valuable cross-community work they are involved in together, “These young people have so much to be proud of. It takes a great deal of personal courage to go into other communities and meet people that are from different backgrounds and develop understanding and friendships with them. It’s not always an easy thing to do, I really respect these guys for the work they are doing together.” said McMorrow.
Michael McGrath from Stena Line spoke about his experience of growing up in a working class community in New York City and how used his passion for sport as a way of keeping motivated to do well in education. The young peope are looking forward to coming along to a game before the end of the season, and were also very pleased with the signed jerseys that Sean and Michael brought along for their clubs as mementos of the visit.
