I don’t know about you, but I have lived in a lot of places over the course of my career and my life. Hockey is one of those sports where sometimes you have to travel or move to the place where the team is that you are going to have the best opportunity to succeed. So, with saying that, it is time for me to pack up all our things and leave Newcastle before we go to Canada for the summer. It is hard to believe all the things you accumulate over the course of a season, and it is the same every year, “I am going to travel light this year” and you know at the end of the year you end up with more and more stuff. I am not going to get on a big rant here about all the stuff I have to move cause that would be brutal, but I am sure you feel my pain.
Kristy is also finishing up work this week, so I am sure she will be happy to take a break from that for a while. This summer we are going to be training a group of junior age players in her mum’s hometown. Mostly just some off ice things, similar to what I usually do but more for their age group, and once it gets to the end of July we will get on the ice for some skating etc. I am looking forward to working with the kids, its nice to try and pass on some of what I have learned over the years and Kris is awesome at the off ice training stuff. We trained a 16 yr old kid last summer and he noticed some great results and had a really good season in Jr B this year and is looking to move up to Jr A. As for myself, I haven’t done too much training so far, with my broken foot it took a good month to heal and also all the other bumps you get over the season need time as well.
Not really too much else has been going on. I have been logging some serious poker hours, Kristy has been working every day so when she is gone I have been getting about a thousand hands a day in! (about 4-5 hours that is) My results have been getting better and anything that can keep me going over the summer without having to get a “real” job is good in my books!
Next time I write will probably be from Glasgow, we are going there next and visiting my parents and hopefully go through to Edinburgh to see Stephen Murphy (my step cousin) so I am excited about that. Oh and one last thing on the hockey side, I am excited to see what all the teams are doing for players next season, a lot of the top players left to go to Europe and to retire. I think it is going to be a very different league with a lot of new players next year but the competition should be as high as ever.
