How much fun is this team? I mean seriously, how many pro hockey players are willing to spend an afternoon and a couple of evenings practicing and filming a video just to make our fans have a bit of a laugh and to blatantly promote our Christmas games.
If you haven’t seen it, watch it here
Hats off to all the players on the team and to some classic performances that have made these guys internet legends already.
I think my highlight of the filming was when Hoff (Mike Hoffman) said to me “Hey, I have an Elf costume at home if you want me to go get it.” My response was simple. “I can’t believe you even had to ask.”
Did Hoff know we were filming a Christmas Video when he bought the Elf Costume? No, but his justification was simple…
“I see an Elf Costume that fits me, I’m buying that costume, because you know it’s going to be used at some point in your life.”
I love these guys, they are PROPERLY fun and don’t take themselves too seriously except when it matters. They are my kind of team.
So Mariah Carey actually TWEETED about us making the video to her song:

Pretty impressive. We also were contacted by ESPN, NHL.com, NBC and laods of other websites, radio stations and publications about the video.
I have to mention how much fun we all had doing this. We had to rehearse before we brought in the cameras to actually film. We spent about three hours in the afternoon going over the steps all choreographed by our very own Deborah Maguire who managed to make 18 hockey guys look like a broadway musical troop. Now she has choreographed some major productions in her career, but this might have been her most challenging job yet. We all got to see first hand why she is so highly regarded in her profession.
A big thanks to the production team as well of Matt MacIvor, Joanne Ham, Neil Whiteside and Jonny Burnside who filmed and edited the final product. You guys are brilliant at what you do and I honestly don’t remember the last time we all laughed so much for so long together.
If you can’t have fun working for a hockey team, you can’t have fun at any job, so I am glad that this has been such a fun project to pull together. I am very lucky to have a great on-ice team and a great off-ice team that were willing to give up their time to make this video. Well done to everyone involved in spreading some Christmas cheer to our fans, and apparently the rest of the hockey world.
Now let’s go win a championship or three so we can make another one of these…
Merry Christmas from everyone at the Belfast Giants…
