The Stena Line Belfast Giants finished the month of September 4-0-2 in league action. The Giants finished the month a point behind the league leaders, the Sheffield Steelers, with two games in hand. The Giants have been led by Stephen Murphy who leads the league in goals against average with 1.96. Daymen Rycroft finished the month as the teams leading scorer with 5 goals and 7 assists in 8 total games. Rycroft entered the month of October tied for 5th in league scoring.
The month of October features five home games and the second round of the Continental Cup. The first test is Saturday night against the Nottingham Panthers who have reinvested in their team already adding NHL star Anthony Stewart and EIHL tough guy Guy Lepine.
Doug Christiansen commented on the upcoming weekend, “Anytime you play Nottingham, you know you are in for a fight. They are an excellent team with tons of offense. We were fortunate to get 3 points in Nottingham earlier this year. I am sure they will be coming to Belfast looking for points. Our team defense is very good at the minute 5v5. Last week, in 3 games we only conceded 3 goals. We still need to improve our special teams but we are getting better every night. Hopefully, we will have a big crowd on Saturday. The players are looking forward to being back at the O!”
