Tonight the Coors Belfast Giants came from behind to earn a shootout win and a valuable 2 points against Elite League rivals the Sheffield Steelers. Alshey Tait opened the scoring in the 1st for the visitors with a shorthanded marker with Lyle making the initial save and the rebounded puck trickling over the line.
Giants got back on terms early in the 2nd when Paul Deniset netted from close range converting a pass from Malcolm MacMillan, however the lead was short lived when Steelers captain Jonathan Phillips walked in from behind the Giants goal to restore the one goal advantage.
Man of the match Andrew Martin leveled the scores once more when his bullet snap shot from the top of the circle beat Jody Lehman over his blocker side. With 16 minutes left in regulation neither team could break the deadlock and it took 5 minutes of overtime and penalty shots to decide the games outcome.
Stevie Lyle made 2 saves in the shootout whilst at the other end Andrew Martin and Evan Cheverie converted to give the Giants the vital extra point.
