A double from Jeff Szwez in the first period was enough to give Belfast the win that saw them change places with Cardiff in the league standings. The home side added a third goal just over the midway point and shortly after this the game boiled over. Hero from the first period Jeff Szwez was thrown out on a 5 plus game for fighting and teammate Sean McMorrow along with Devils Brad Voth were both given fives for fighting.

Cardiff did get a goal back in the second period but they couldn’t add to it and with the third period ending goalless it was the Giants who took the points.

Before his departure in the second period Szwez (6th&7th) put the home side in front with the second fastest opening goal of the season as he struck with 29 seconds on the clock. He then added a second on the powerplay at 10.58.

Belfast took a three goal lead with a strike from Colin Shields (15th) at 31.29. The Devils did reply to this goal as Matt Miller (14th) netted on the powerplay at 37.12.

No further goals in the game and the Giants put two losses last weekend behind them.
