Nottingham Panthers 4 - Belfast Giants 1
A confident start to the league season by Panthers as they saw off the Giants challenge with young Scot Ross Dalgleish scoring the first goal of the 09-10 season and ending with the Man of the Match award on his debut.
It took Dalgleish only 1.44 to open his and Panthers scoring for the season with and on the powerplay Cameron Mann fired the home side 2-0 ahead at 8.01, a lead they held until the period break.
The score remained that way until late in the second session when firstly Sean McAslan made it 3-0 at 37.42 with a further powerplay strike before Colin Shields got Giants on the board at 38.38.
The regularly potent Panthers powerplay unit still looks ominously strong and they added a third goal with the man-advantage at 42.11, with Mann grabbing his second of the night and that effectively killed off any hopes that Giants had of getting back in to the contest with the home side claiming the points.
