The LBM Belfast Giants ended a 4 game losing skid as they bounced back from last night’s game in Whitley Bay defeating the Vipers by a 6-2 score line, a game that seen the return of George Awada.

Evan Cheverie grabbed the first goal of the game at 6:29 slotting home a pass from Pat Bateman.

The returning George Awada edged closer to the 300 elite league points milestone as he banged in a loose puck on the powerplay. Pat Bateman forced Reiter to make a save, and with him sprawled out in the crease Awada arrived at the back post to slap the puck into the empty net.

Brandon Benedict added the Giants 3rd just seconds into the second period. Shields won the faceoff and sent Craig Peacock down the right wing. His centring pass found Benedict who re-directed the puck along the ice through Reiter’s legs.

Jacobsen tallied the Giants 4th with Tyler Kindle sitting a hooking penalty at 24:52.

With the pressure in the Vipers end Mark Morrison and Dean Holland exchanged a few words and decided to drop the gloves and square off at centre ice. McMorrow may be the Sheriff of the Elite League but Mo must have been auditioning for Deputy as he and Holland exchanged blows, each then sitting 5 minutes for fighting.

At 28:40, with the puck in neutral ice, one of the lines man brought the game to a halt and consulted with referee Dean Smith who awarded the Vipers their opening goal. Jason Tejchma’s shot was judged to have passed through a tear in the roof of the net behind Stephen Murphy.

With Brandon Benedict sitting a 2 minute penalty for slashing Steve Thornton latched onto a pass in the neutral zone from Evan Cheverie. Thornton split the Vipers defence and roofed the puck over Reiter’s glove with a shorthanded goal.

At 41:58 Tom Walsh threaded a pass to Brandon Benedict who’s backhand shot rung off both posts before Colin Shields tapped in the rebound to score the Giants 6th of the night.

The Vipers added a consolation goal with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game when Matus Petricko beat Murphy with the assist going to David Longstaff.
